7 Horror Movies you shouldn’t watch on your own

Do you like watching Horror Movies? If you do, continue to read. As a round up for Halloween I thought it would be fun to give you a selection of my favorite Horror movies to watch. I wonder why I am watching them because it scares the hell out of me sometimes depending on the movie. When I watch these sort of movies, I generally don’t watch them on my own because I know I won’t be sleeping well. So as the title says, do not watch them on your own or when you are on your own in the house.

The Amityville Horror / The Conjuring / The Halloween Movie Series / The Blair Witch Project / Trick or Treat / Jeepers Creepers / The Grudge

#1 The Amityville Horror

Based on a true story there are 2 versions of this movie. The original movie was released in 1979 and it was filmed again in 2005. The American author Jay Anson also wrote a book about it in 1977. The DeFeo family lived in this house and one of the children killed his parents and siblings with him being left the only one surviving. Soon enough he was caught as the murder. 5 years later, in 1975. the Lutz family moves in because they got a great price on the house (for this reason that happened in the past). Not long after the family began to experience supernatural  phenomenon such as slime oozing from the walls, strange noises and large amount of flies in the house. Their daughter Missy (who did not know of the murders) had an imaginary friend named Jody, the same name as one of the DeFeo’s daughters. They moved out after 28 days.

#2 The Conjuring

I’ve watched this movie only recently. Again it is based on a true story. In 1971, Carolyn and Roger Perron move their family into a dilapidated Rhode Island farm house and soon strange things start happening around it with escalating nightmarish terror. In desperation, Carolyn contacts the noted paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, to examine the house. What the Warrens discover is a whole area steeped in a satanic haunting that is now targeting the Perron family wherever they go. To stop this evil, the Warrens will have to call upon all their skills and spiritual strength to defeat this spectral menace at its source that threatens to destroy everyone involved.

#3 The Halloween Movie Series

Probably one of the classics of Halloween Horror Movies. I recommend to watch the whole series which could take you a few days 1963, Halloween night, police are called to 43 Lampkin Ln. only to discover that 15 year old Judith Myers has been stabbed to death, by her 6 year-old brother, Michael. After being institutionalized for 15 years, Myers breaks out on the night before Halloween. No one knows, nor wants to find out, what will happen on October 31st 1978 besides Myers’ psychiatrist, Dr. Loomis. He knows Michael is coming back to Haddonfield, but by the time the town realizes it, it’ll be too late for many people.

#4 The Blair Witch Project

A movie based on a true story. Three film students travel to Maryland to make a student film about a local urban legend… The Blair Witch. The three went into the woods on a two day hike to find the Blair Witch, and never came back. One year later, the students film and video was found in the woods. The footage was compiled and made into a movie. The Blair Witch Project.

#5 Trick Or Treat

Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband and a mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick -or treater.

#6 Jeepers Creepers

On their way back home during the spring break, Darry and Patricia Jenner witness a mysterious person dumping something down a tunnel. Deciding to discover what was dumped down there, Darry discovers a huge disturbing hideout full of modified bodies. Darry and Patricia set off to get help, unaware that the individual is now aware of who has been down the tunnel. Darry and Patricia soon realizes that their pursuer is not just a mysterious person, but something even more horrifying, who has more in store than they could possibly imagine.

#7 The Grudge

An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim.

I used to love watching horror films although psychological thrillers are my personal favourite. I don’t really watch them much any more as, since having kids, I seem to have become somewhat of a wuss and avoid dark corners after watching any scary flick!

I was a big horror fan as a teen then I couldn’t watch them after having kids.My 13 year is a theatre school student, has huge interest in horror, in particular suspense thrillers and zombies. We been watching quite a few over the last year, Blair Witch and The Conjuring we have watched.Anything with dolls and clowns freaks us both out, he’s so funny to watch as he gets hyped up.I haven’t seen The Amityville Horror and Halloween in years, but I do remember them to quite gory. Never seen Trick Or Treat, Jeepers Creepers or The Grudge yet.

I’m not a horror film fan. The Ring terrorised me! But I do remember seeing the Blair Witch Project when we were at school with friends, in Milton Keynes at the old Point cinema for the midnight showing…in the queue in front of us was a former Grange Hill actor.

I’ve only seen Blair Witch, but I didn’t think it was very good. (And I watched it alone at that lol). I’ll have to give some of the others a try 🙂

I can’t watch any scary film on my own. Even though ‘The Woman in Black’ is only rated 12s it freaked me out so much. I’m such a wuss. Although, I didn’t find the Amityville Horror remake too bad at all x
