A Mini Holiday in Spain

It has been well over a week since I returned from my mini holiday in Spain. I can’t believe it has gone that quick. I have to say I love last minute holiday trips. A few work friends and I decided in March that we needed some sun. The weather was dreadful back then.

I didnt’ quite believe at first that we are going to find a good deal last minute but we did. Three days in Malaga for not even 200 Euro. We decided on Air Bnb  and stayed in an apartment which had a pool right in the middle of the apartment block. I have to say I was well impressed. I am normally that kind of girl who goes for the hotel with half board but I would happily go back here. There were plenty of options to go for breakfast nearby and it was so cheap, too. We didn’t actually spend a lot.

On a Friday evening our plane was supposed to depart at 7pm. First of all the traffic to even get to the airport was mental. Once we arrived at the airport and approached the gate, we were told the plane was delayed by three hours. Apparently it was due to the wind condition which I find hard to believe as we were moved to another gate and the plane we were supposed to get, had a technical problem. 2am Spanish time we finally touched down. We felt a bit bad for the guy who gave us the keys to the apartment but he was so lovely and didn’t mind at all.

The apartment consisted of a kitchen which was connected with the living room.  We had a balcony, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Plenty of space for four people. It was perfect.

Due to the late arrival, we slept in a bit. The first thing we did, was to have breakie. We found a place only down the road from us called “Sam’s Bar”. We walked the hilly way as we didn’t know at first where it was located but it was literally across from the apartment. The guys had Irish breakfast while I went for the continental one. I chose pancakes, orange juice and croissant. Then we went off to the local super market to stock up on food, water and snacks. (Does anyone else associate Fanta Lemon with holidays?) Once we got back, we chilled out for a little bit and were ready to hit the beach. This was around lunch time. It was a bit windy but temperatures were still high enough to get a tan (or sunburn)

After an hour or so we left the beach and headed to Sam’s bar for a drink. I chose the good old Pina Colada while Emily went mad on two Long Islands as they had an offer two for ten. Put it that way, it was a fun afternoon and evening. Dinner was had in an oriental place. They offered Chinese and Thai. I didn’t want to be too adventurous so I ordered the noodles with chicken. Once we were finished, we walked along the beach front and discovered a nice bar. We sat outside for a few drinkies. This time I had a Sangria and so did the other girls.

Back in the apartment we watched some Netflix for a little while. It came with the TV which was very handy. It was getting quite late, especially because we didn’t have much sleep the previous night, so I went to bed after a while.

Sunday was another sleep in day. I don’t get these that often so it was nice to have three of these. I discovered a little cafe around the corner from our apartment, so I picked up a coffee for me and Pamela. As it was nearly lunch time by the time we were ready, we walked down to the beach front and had lunch in McDonalds. Then it was off to the beach again. This time we walked further down because it just looked nicer the other way. We settled down underneath the palm trees. The sea was freezing I have to admit but Emily and me managed to go for a short swim and even a little dive to look underneath. There was actually no one else in the water at the time. I am taking a guess, the water was around 16 to 17 degrees.

An hour in again and we went back to the pool. We actually had a ball in the pool. Me and Emily were diving in the water which felt like hours. I normally open my eyes under the water but picked up goggles from the shop and it’s just so much clearer. I was jumping in all the time. The deep end must have been three metres. We ended up buying five little balls and played with them in the water. There was a small little girl who ended up being quite attached to us and played with us. She even sat with us on the towels for a little while.

In the evening time we decided to try out an Italian restaurant at the beach front. The food was absolutely amazing. We were sitting outside under a gazebo enjoying the view. The staff were so lovely, too. We all shared some garlic bread which I have to say was the best garlic bread I had in a long time, if not even the best garlic bread. For the main I had a Salami pizza… delicious. After we paid, we walked over to the beach and took some photos as the sun was just setting down.

This was our last evening, so we decided to go for another drink in Sam’s Bar. They closed pretty early. We still had a few snacks and drinks in the apartment. The evening was spent watching the horror movie Mama all cosy on the sofa.

Monday was our last day. However, while we were there, we noticed that it felt we were there way longer than just three days. I think it probably has go to do with the fact that we arrived so late. We treated ourselves to a nice fried breakfast at the sea front with some orange juice and a coffee. The weather was beautiful and it felt hotter than the previous two days. The temperatures always ranged between 22 and 24 degrees.

One last time we went to the beach. This time we rented the sun lounges. We should have done it in the first place. It’s so much comfier and you can’t go wrong with 10 EUR for two sun loungers. I’d say this was the day where I got most of my tan and a bit of sunburn too. After sunbathing, we spent some time in the gift shop to buy souvenirs for friends and family.

We couldn’t leave without going to the pool one more time. And so we enjoyed one or two more hours of fun times in the pool before heading to our apartment to pack everything.

The guy who owns the apartment was so kind and let us stay until we had to leave for the airport, even though check out time is normally 12pm. Nobody was booked in the following day. It was really kind of him. Once all packed and tidied up a bit, we left the apartment behind and walked to the sea front at 8pm to grab a taxi.

Burger king was had before heading to the gate and with thirty minutes delay, we finally made it back home and I was in bed at 3.30am exhausted. What an amazing holiday it was. This is going to become an annual thing now.
