Christmas Surprises by Orchard Toys

christmas surprises

I love a good game we can play together as a family. When Orchard Toys got in touch to review their “Christmas surprises” game we were more than delighted to do so. It’s great to have a season themed game in the house in the run up to Christmas.

Christmas Surprises is a 2 in 1 game. What I mean by that is, it has 2 different games. You can either teach your little ones the different shapes or he/she can learn about different colours. Both games I find very educational. At the age of 3 Matthew is learning all this at the moment. He can name the different colours but he cannot point out the actual right colour yet. That’s why the Christmas tree game is perfect for him. It helps him with exactly that.

DSC06165Both games can be played with 4 people. For the colour game you need the Christmas tree card, the colour dice and the coloured baubles. Place the baubles beside you with the colours facing up. Roll the dice and pick up the colour for your tree, for example purple. Pass the dice onto the next player. If you pick purple again, give the dice to the next player. The first person with all 6 baubles on the Christmas tree wins.

For the shape game you will require the Santa Clause cards, the shape dice and the presents. Place the presents beside you facing them down so you don’t see what kind of present you receive in your sack. This one was a bit difficult for Matthew to play because he is not aware of all shapes but with a bit of help from mammy we managed to get through this game, too. If we played it more often, he will quickly have picked up on all shapes. Just like the colour game, the aim in the shape game is, to be the first person filling up the sack with all 6 presents.

We will be definitely playing this every weekend now leading up to Christmas. It makes it a bit more exciting.

Christmas Surprises is ideal for children between the age of 3 and 6. The benefits of this game are:
– Colour Recognition
– Personal and Social Skills
– Shape and Matching Skills
– Observational Skills
You can buy it for £9.50 which I find very reasonable.

HUGE fan of Orchard Toys here. I used to love playing the games with children when I worked in a nursery. Hope my daughter likes them when she’s a bit older too. xx

Oh i love that this is essential 2 games in 1 and that kids are learning about shapes and colours while having some Christmassy fun at the same time. I know that this would go down a treat with my boys, so totally adding this to their wishlists! xx

This game is perfect for little ones at Christmas. It’s definitely going in my shopping basket for my daughter to use next Christmas. She’s still a tiny bit young, but we LOVE Orchard Toys. She’s already getting to grips with their first puzzles and first games so this will be ideal! 😀 xxx #love2blog
