A Day in a Parenting Blogger’s Life – Life with Mrs Lee

Happy Friday everyone. I can’t believe it’s only two weeks until I finish up at work for Christmas. December is flying this year. And a weeks time I have my work Christmas party on.  Have you got all your presents sorted yet? The kids are done but I haven’t bought anything for the other half yet.

Today I have Harriet joining me from Life with Mrs Lee. She has recently announced on social media that she is expecting again so say hello to Harriet.

First of all, tell me a bit about yourself.

I’m Harriet. Wife to Josh and Mama to Bella who has just turned three. I’m forever trying to juggle being a working Mama with family life. When I get time, I love to bake and am can often be found cooking up treats in the kitchen.

How many times were you woken last night?

Twice! Sob…

Do you co-sleep?

No. Although we did for the first few weeks of parenthood! Anything to get some sleep.

What time do you normally wake up?

Around 7am

How much average sleep do you get a night?

I aim for at least 8 hours as I’m super grumpy if I don’t get enough sleep!

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

I know it’s terrible but I probably check my social media and my emails on my phone before anything else.

Tell me about your typical morning routine.

On a work day we get up around 7am and Bella will lay in our bed watching those god awful kinder egg videos on YouTube or play with her dolls house in her bedroom while I get myself dressed and ready for work. I will then get Bella ready for Nursery before heading downstairs and making her breakfast. While she eats I will feed the dog, unload the dishwasher and get mine and Josh’s lunch ready for work. Then it’s time to brush teeth before making a mad dash out the door!

When and how often do you prepare the family dinners? Give us a few examples what you would cook.

I probably cook dinner 3- 4 times a week, and Josh will cook the other nights but some weeks we will eat out or get a take away one night too. Our favourite family meals are chicken risotto, fishcakes, bolognese and fajitas. Although Josh and I love noodle dishes and curry on the nights we eat without Bella.

What’s on the menu for lunch?

Today I had a multiseed flatbread with prawns and salad which is one of my favourites. I often have salads, crispbreads or sometimes I will take leftovers from dinner. Bella’s loves to have eggy bread, beans on toast, cheese toasties/wraps and crackers for lunch normally with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, a yoghurt and some fruit.

What activities have you got planned for the day for the kids?

Bella is at Nursery on the days I’m at work but Friday is our favourite day together.  We have ballet first thing then we’ll normally see friends in the afternoon for a play date or we’ll go to the park or walk the dog together.

Do you generally eat dinner together as a family or get the kids fed first?

We try to eat dinner together on my days off and always at the weekends but on Nursery days Bella has a hot lunch and tea there so by the time she gets home she’ll normally just want something light.

What do you do after dinner?

Two evenings a week I go to exercise classes, the other evenings I will catch up on housework, write blog posts and try to unwind. Occasionally I will see a girlfriend one evening too.

What is your bedtime routine?

If I haven’t already done so, I will take my make up off then brush my teeth in the bathroom downstairs then once I’m upstairs I’ll get into my pjs and lay out my clothes for the next day before getting into bed and catching up with social media. Sometimes I will read for a bit but normally I’m too tired and just go straight to sleep!

Most importantly, when and where do you normally blog in those 24 hours? Do you have a schedule?

I don’t really have a schedule at the moment sadly. I just try to blog as and when I can. My weeks are pretty hectic and time is something I really lack. I will always spend a couple of hours on Sunday evening popping photos onto my Mac from my camera and then organising them into blog posts. That way I can just write the content up when I get chance in the week.

Thanks for the insights of your day. I think I need a husband who can cook, takes the pressure off me.

I second what Vikki said, I’m such a nosey person, so I love finding out more about people, especially bloggers, our lives are out there for the world to see, but there’s so much we don’t share!

Abbie has stopped watching the surprise egg videos now, she was obsessed for so long but she prefers watching pocoyo now, have you heard of it? It’s actually kinda cute. But anything that gives you time to get ready eh!

Lovely photos here too, the lighting is perfect! X

I really enjoy these types of posts and getting an insight into other bloggers’ lives! I think we’re all guilty of checking emails and social media first thing in the morning Harriet, it’s almost like second nature these days isn’t it? lol xx

I enjoy this series of posts, interesting to hear how different mums do it all. I have followed Life with Mrs Lee for a while. I am certainly not as productive as Harriet on a morning, though! x

i love these posts ad getting to know the blogger much better. I can’t believe how much Harriet achieves in a morning! I literally manage to stumble to the kitchen and pour some cereal out for my son while my head hits the table. I’m not a morning person at all! lol
