A Day in a Parenting Blogger’s Life – Mimi Rose & Me

Good morning to you all. Another Friday, another week over. I hope  you all had a good one. My one was half good, half stressful in work. Mainly because we were two people short all week. Next week is going to be easier. Have you got any nice plans at the weekend? We are planning to bake and go to the pottery.

Today on the blog series “A day in a parenting blogger’s life” is Kelly-Anne who blogs at Mimi Rose & Me.

First of all, tell me a bit about yourself.

Hello my name is Kelly-Anne, I’m a wife to my lovely husband Tony, a mummy to my little lady Amelia-Rose and an owner to a very chunky beagle called Jakey. I first launched my blog as a way to keep my brain from turning to complete mush whilst on maternity leave. But becoming a mother to my beautiful little girl changed my life and now I am a full time mum that loves to blog. My daughter and my blog are more fulfilling than I ever imagined. I hope to continue this new love for blogging whilst being the best wife and mother I can be.

How many times were you woken last night?

Thankfully none! I am in no way a smug mum but it feels good to say that my daughter was the 7.40am wake up call this morning, a lovely lie in.

Do you co-sleep?

No, we never thought about co-sleeping with our daughter. If she has a bad night she normally asks to come into our bed, but that’s only so she can play with our window ornaments.

What time do you normally wake up?

We are normally early birds and wake up between 6am-7am.

How much average sleep do you get a night?

We introduced a strict routine with our daughter at 6 weeks old and she has been sleeping through the night since and will sleep between 10-12 hours sleep. I on the other hand, will go to bed with good intentions but will lay awake for ages and find myself googling how to make bread from scratch or something like that!

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

I have to start the day with a cup of tea, my daughter will have a warm milk. She always wants me to spin around while her milk is warming up in the microwave…our game is called ‘let’s mikkywave’!

Tell me about your typical morning routine.

We have always had really lazy mornings at home, however that is all set to change as my little lady will be starting nursery in the mornings very soon. But on the days where we have errands we are always up, washed and dressed before 8am before having breakfast.

When and how often do you prepare the family dinners? Give us a few examples what you would cook.

I cook most days unless my husband is off work, he works shifts so it all depends. I really enjoy creating toddler dinners to help get more veggies into my daughter, she normally like plain food and so we are slowly introducing flavours. We enjoy chicken fajitas, stews, bolognese, chillis and lots of different fritters. We have been making a few slimming world recipes that all of us have enjoyed and can’t wait to create more of them.

What’s on the menu for lunch?

We both have gone a bit bonkers for crackerbread. So today we are having tuna, sweetcorn and spring onions on cracker bread, carrot sticks, cucumber chunks with some quavers. A chocolate lollipop and yoghurt for something sweet.

What activities have you got planned for the day for the kids?

I like to try and do something with my daughter at least twice a week. We go to toddler groups on Mondays and Thursdays. This week we actually went out to an adventure barn and both my husband and I had way too much fun that we should have.

Do you generally eat dinner together as a family or get the kids fed first?

As my husband works random shifts it all depends on when he is at home. When my husband is working a day shift I will cook for my daughter and sit up the table with her and eat with my husband when he gets home. If he works a night shift I will prepare a meal for my daughter and myself and eat up the table.

What do you do after dinner?

Normally we finishing eating at half five and so this will be a time for my daughter to watch a programme before bathtime at 6.30pm. Then it’s bath time, story time and bedtime.

What is your bedtime routine?

We both will have dinner, go for a bath/shower, chill out and binge on Netflix whilst eating lots of things we shouldn’t. It’s during the evening where I will do any blogging work, but looking after a toddler I’m normally pooped and want to watch the soaps.

Most importantly, when and where do you normally blog in those 24 hours? Do you have a schedule?

I really find it hard to make sure I have a few set blogging hours everyday. It use to be during my daughter’s nap time, but she dropped those a while ago! So it’s become more of a case of grabbing 20 minutes when I can.

What a lovely series! Amelia Rose is very cute, bless her! When my youngest dropped her nap, it was a bit of a shock too! I used to do quite a big chunk of work when she was asleep. It’s all at night now. Well done for managing to establish a strict routine and having a good sleeper. My first was a great sleeper too 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. from a very young age. My girls were different…

This is so lovely! I too find it hard to have designated blogging time as my trio keep me busy! It’s all in the evenings for me to do really.
