A Day in a Parenting Blogger’s Life – Mummy Fox

Good morning to you all. I hope your week wasn’t as stressful. Thank God it’s Friday. I can’t wait for the weekend to start. It should be definitely longer than two days. Saturday we have Chloe’s party planned with great cousins. So tonight I’ll be busy baking. Fun fun fun.

Continuing on with my blog series “A Day in a Parenting Bloggers Life” I have Amy joining me who blog at Mummy Fox.

First of all, tell me a bit about yourself.

Hi! I’m Amy and I write the parenting and lifestyle blog, Mummy Fox, which is about my life as a Mummy Fox to our little boy, Alfie 2, and being a wife to Mr Fox.

How many times were you woken last night?

Last night was actually a good night for us! Alfie was tired and went to bed late, but fairly easily. He woke once when we moved him from our bed to his Paw Patrol Readybed (We are staying at my parents!) He didn’t wake up nearly 8am. Major lie in for us!

Do you co-sleep?

We try not too, mainly because our bed is not big enough for my 6”3 husband, me and a sideways sleeping Alfie! But he will often end up in our bed if he wakes in the night or will not fall asleep in his bed. For a better night sleep we always try to move him.

What time do you normally wake up?

This really depends on whether it’s a work day or not. It’s currently the Christmas holiday so Alfie’s been going to bed later and getting up later. Think 9pm – 8am instead of 8pm – 6.30am. We tend to always wake up when he does.

How much average sleep do you get a night?

8 hours sleep a night is my ideal, I’m grumpy if I don’t get enough sleep. But with a toddler in the house, that’s not always possible!

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

My husband is amazing and will always go down and make me a coffee. Alfie is at the age now where he understands what Daddy is doing and will say “My make Mummy coffee too!” and go to help Dan.
I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve this, but Alfie will also say “Daddy take me downstairs breaktfast time, Mummy stay in bed!” Any parents dream, I know!

Tell me about your typical morning routine.

I’m a very laid back person. I don’t wear make up and I hardly spend any time doing my hair or getting ready. I will get up, shower, dry my hair and get dressed. All in the quickest time possible! The more time in bed the better for me.

When and how often do you prepare the family dinners? Give us a few examples what you would cook.

Dan and I share the cooking. He makes simple, quick meals and I make the more complicated, harder recipes that are generally tastier! Dan will happily make a pasta bake or Fajitas and I’ll make a Chicken, Bacon and Leek Pastry Pie or a Roast Dinner.

What’s on the menu for lunch?

Christmas Dinner take II. We had Christmas Dinner at Dan’s parents so now we are having a second at my parents. So a turkey dinner with all the trimmings!

What activities have you got planned for the day for the kids?

We have a gingerbread house that we’ve still not built that I’m sure Alfie would love to eat the sweets from and generally get hyper from! I would like to get to the local park and just have a run around and a kick-a-bout with the boys!

Do you generally eat dinner together as a family or get the kids fed first?

We try to all eat together, and we will today, but we don’t sit at the table together at home enough. It is something I am going to try to do more in 2017!

What do you do after dinner?

Pots are cleared and sorted and then its play time. On a work night we eat pretty much as soon as we get home. So then we need some play time with Alfie before the bedtime routine.

What is your bedtime routine?

Our bedtime routine is so hit or miss. It has changed over the last few weeks and is generally chaos at the moment! Alfie will have a bath, get his PJs on and then have a story, in the story corner, before going and getting into bed for another story. What happens from there is chaos. He has taken to climbing out of his bed over and over and over and crying… It’s not a fun time in our house. If you’ve got any tips send them my way!

Most importantly, when and where do you normally blog in those 24 hours? Do you have a schedule?

I tend to blog when Alfie is napping in the day or in the evenings, I work full time so I can’t do much in the day, unless it’s on my lunch break. It’s hard fitting it all in but once I get going I can write for England!

Thanks for that Amy. If you can help Amy with a bedtime routine, you are more than welcome to comment below. From our perspective I can tell you we have the same bed routine every night. They both go to sleep okay but I find Chloe, the youngest, in our bed a lot during the night. She is still in her cot bed so can’t go anywhere.
