Today is World Cancer Day

WCD_LOGO_4C

4th February marks the day of World Cancer Day. Let’s raise awareness to all the people out there who tragically died from this disease including my lovely mum which is one of the main reasons why I am raising awareness.

World Cancer Day unites the world’s population in the fight against cancer.

It aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease, pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action.

– Currently, 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year, out of which, 4 million people die prematurely (aged 30 to 69 years)

– World Cancer Day is the ideal opportunity to spread the word and raise the profile of cancer in people’s minds and in the world’s media

There are many ways to get involved:

Simply log onto the World Cancer Day website.

1. Add your WCD activity to the map of impact.

The interactive WCD Map of Impact aims to feature all of the events, (social media) activities and actions that are taking place on/around World Cancer Day.

2. Support WCD on Social Media

The ‘Talking Hands’ social media campaign is an entertaining and easy way to get involved in World Cancer Day, to show your support to the fight against cancer and increase the global impact of the Day. Use the hashtags #WorldCancerDay #WeCanICan

3. Download WCD Campaign Materials

There are several materials such as posters, factsheets and toolkits on their website which can be downloaded in no time.

4. Increase WCD’s Impact

a) Through a press/media campaign
b) Through a special event/activity
c) Through partnetships
d) or like I do a mention on your website about the day

5. Translate Materials

We want all the World Cancer Day resources to be accessible to as many people as possible globally. As a start, all materials are available in English, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, however, we would appreciate your help to translate them into other languages.

I’d say many people will be spreading the word and raising awareness via Twitter and Instagram being the most popular platform. Will it be you, too?

It is still so important to raise awareness about cancer. I work in a cancer support centre so unfortunately see it all the time. Kaz x

A great awareness day to support. I’ve luckily never been affected by cancer but I know so many who have.
