Matthew, You Are Ten

Dear Matthew,

you reached the double digit. Can you believe it, because your parents can’t. What a marvellous ten years we have had with you so far.

You headed into fourth class. Soon in the blink of an eye you will be in secondary school. But we still have a good bit to go. COVID is a thing of the past so school is back in full swing which is nice to see. You are happy to play with your friends in the yard again. Your favourite subject at the moment seems to be maths. Though you are currently not too keen on the amount of homework you are getting. However, mammy and daddy are always there to help out in case you get stuck on something.

You are mostly a great eater. Lunch boxes from school come home empty most of the time. You know what you like and if you find a meal you really love, you will have seconds. However, if it is an ordinary meal, sometimes it is hard for you to finish the whole meal. But that’s okay, as long as you are full. It is a good thing that you are really into your fruit and vegetables. I can give you a whole plate of fruit for dinner and it would be gone in no time. I am trying to introduce a few new meals to the family table but your sister makes this a bit more challenging, as you know she is not a big fan of vegetables.

For your big birthday party you were surrounded by all your friends from school and creche. We celebrate in Jungle Den Play Centre in the evening time where you had a Laser Tag party. Everyone had a ball and they all went home tired and sweaty which is always a good sign. I got someone to make a Pokeball birthday cake for you and everyone loved the flavour of the cake. So much so that some people had seconds. I think next year it will be a soccer themed cake because you are mad into the soccer right now.

Which leads me to the next subject. Up until recently, it was all about Pokemon. However, now that you are older, within the last couple of months you have become a little Soccer star. In fact, we now enrolled you in Soccer training every Friday evening leading up to Christmas. From next February you are finally able to take part in matches, too. You are out afternoons and evenings on the green with the neighbours playing Soccer for ages. Your favourite football team is Manchester United and your favourite team player is Ronaldo. For your birthday you got a jersey which is always worn when you are out playing with the boys. It is basically your lucky charm I think.

This year we managed to escape the country twice. For the Easter holidays we flew to London for a long weekend away and even met up with Karoline. At first, you were not too keen on the tube but after a short while you were very confident getting on and off. You have seen a  lot of sights and I think you quite enjoyed London. In June we set off on our well deserved Summer holiday. The chosen destination was Mallorca. There was plenty of swimming, activities, sightseeing and bouncy castles. In fact, I don’t think you wanted the holiday to end. We all came back with a recharged battery. We have yet to book our Summer holiday for next year.

You are also doing really well at the tennis. This Summer you went to the tennis Summer camp again. The highlight of it was that there was a sweet shop and everyone could buy sweets up to €1 daily. I think this gave you more of a push to attend the camp every day.  You are always telling us how good your back hand is. I can confirm it it s a strong one as you beat mammy a few times on it. Soon you will become a great player just like you daddy.

Game wise you are big into playing Minecraft on your switch. It used to be watching Pokemon content on Youtube but now it is all about Minecraft. It helps you get through the world and I am sure gives you tips and tricks, too. I do find it is a great game to be into because it is very helpful and educational for you at the same time.

Your clothing size is spot on like every year. Trousers you have moved onto the next size which is size 11. Shoe size is still the same (2) and tops we are slowly but surely moving onto size 11 too. However, you quite enjoy wearing jerseys with hoodies over it at the moment.

It has been a quick year and before we know it, we will be sitting under the Christmas tree again, opening presents and eating lots of food and chocolates, accompanied with plenty of Christmas movies.

Until then… We love  you very much bestie boy.
