Why We Chose Carpet Upstairs

We have been living in our new built home for well over three years now. Even now we are still decorating/improving our house. It’s an endless story really. But what do they say “A house is never finished”. That couldn’t be more true.

A few weeks, or even months, before we moved into our forever home (hopefully anyway), we had to make a decision on the flooring we would get all throughout downstairs, as well as what we are going to do with upstairs. Some people actually put down wooden floors, others prefer carpets. Us on the other hand prefer the good old carpet and these are the reasons why:

Soft and safe

Despite having underfloor heating on the downstairs level, which makes it very cosy under the feet, I do like the comfort and warmth when walking up the stairs, too. It’s very soft when walking around and getting ready in the morning. But not only that, it is much safer than wooden flooring. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night, needing to go to the bathroom and possibly slipping. Particularly with young children, like in our case, carpets are just the better option.

Clean air

Who would have thought that carpets are actually better for your air system. When dust is flying around the air, it lands on the carpet, which is then being trapped by it. Literally it just requires a hoover to remove the allergens. Wooden flooring wouldn’t pick it up as good as carpets would.

Tip Toeing

Imagine tip toeing around your own home. As the carpet is very soft, it reduces the noise walking around the house. I do have a good nights sleep, however since having my kids, I do wake up from any kind of noise. For example when they start walking into our room or when they open up the door. Wooden flooring would have me on edge as you’d hear every step.

Easier to maintain

Now everyone is going to have a different opinion on this one. But in my opinion carpets are easier maintained. It takes less time to clean them whereas with wooden floors you’d have to mop them and wait for them to try. This again means there is a safety hazard. Nobody can go upstairs until the floor is dry.
