A Visit to Clonfert Pet Farm over the Easter Holidays

For some people it is back to normal school drop offs this week. In Ireland we still have a week of holidays and we are not back to routines until next week. However I only took off last week so the kids are enjoying their time off in creche this week. Matthew told me he missed his little friends he plays with.

I am glad that for once I took the right week off weather wise. As I currently look out the window, it seems to turn miserable again. We didn’t make a proper plan for our week off as everything depended on the weather really. Tuesday evening was the day it finally got nicer. So for Wednesday we decided to go to the farm. Chloe has been talking about the farm all week. And so we made her wish come true.

Clonfert Pet Farm has been on our list a while but as our every day life goes, we never managed to visit. The farm is literally only a twenty minutes drive from Naas and located not too far from Maynooth. I generally buy tickets online to make a few savings but in this case, the price is the same on site. A ticket per adult/child is €5. If you buy a family ticket that consists of 2 adults and 2 kids you pay €15 which I think is very reasonable.

As well as the farm there is a go kart area, a bouncy castle, playground and indoor soft play area. We didn’t check out the soft play area simply because the weather was too nice and we wanted to be out in it as much as we could. Behind the bouncy castle you will also find a mini golf area which is an additional cost of €2 per person. Of course we gave this a go too as Matthew loves playing mini golf.

When we arrived, we already had our lunch beforehand but there are plenty of picnic places around the farm including a BBQ. Our first stop was the playground. Thankfully it wasn’t too busy which meant the kids had plenty of goes on the slides. Chloe is getting a lot more outgoing and has a lot more confidence these days. It took her a while but it’s nice to see that she is enjoying these on her own now without me being by her side all the time.

After the playground we walked around the farm and looked at all the animals. We spotted hens, ducks, ponies, owls, sheep and llamas. There was also a corner where you could hold and pet the rabbits. Chloe will probably go on about the llama story for the rest of her life though. Some of you may know what they are known for. Anyway as we were walking by, I took a picture of it and then it started to spit at us. It was actually the funniest thing ever. Since then Chloe keeps saying “The thing spit at mammy”.

After we went on the go kart track. It was actually hard to get Matthew off it. He had a ball and was going round and round for ages. Chloe had a go with daddy and she also went on one with me as she was a little small to reach the pedals yet.

We came back to the start and had a go on the mini golf course. It was a bit hard because the golf balls were a bit too light but Matthew enjoyed it anyway. Then they both wanted to go on the bouncy castle. Something Chloe would have never wanted to do previously but as long as her brother was there, she was happy to jump around. In the end she didn’t even want to come off it and threw a big tantrum.

We have been to several farms before but this one is definitely our favourite one so far. So if you are looking for a few hours out of the house and the weather is nice, you should totally drive by this farm. The place opens at 10.30am every day and closes 5.30pm during weekdays and 6pm weekends.
