Giant Pass the Pigs – A Portable Game for your Staycation

The Summer holidays are in full swing for the last week in Ireland. This year is obviously going to be a lot different to any other Summer holidays. The only break we will get this Summer is a staycation up in County Donegal. We are looking forward to it to actually get a break and see some other scenery.

The plan is to mainly do some sightseeing in Donegal but also do some activities the kids would enjoy. When we are in our lodge to wind down, we also need some entertainment. The last few weeks we have been playing “Giant Pass the Pigs“. A game that is familiar to me since I was a child. I still have the small version of it and it is a game I enjoyed very much… and still do.

Giant Pass the Pigs come with two pigs that have to be inflated, a carry bag so you can easily bring it anywhere with you such as the beach, the pool, the garden etc. Of course we can not forget the score chart, a pencil as well as a repair patch in case one of the piggies need some repairing done.

The game is very simple. Throw the pigs at head height and see what way they land. Whatever position they land in, you get points. It’s up to you whether you want to keep your points or if you want to throw again to get higher points. But be careful, if the pigs touch in any kind of position your score is set to zero and the next players turn. Also if both pigs lie on their side aligned, your score will also be reset to zero. The aim of the game is to get to 100 points first.

The kids had an absolute ball with this game. It’s more so, I think, because they are so big and you can throw them up in the air. It was very exciting for them. This game will surely come with us on our staycation. I might bring the small one with us too for a more quiet version for the adults, once the kids are asleep.

Blast from the past. This game is probably around twenty years old, if not even more. Still going strong.
