How the Kids Sleep More Comfortably during the Summer

Our promised heat wave over the bank holiday weekend has come to an end and it’s back to the not so glorious weather. A three day Summer is better than nothing and hopefully it’s only the start.

The Summer is tricky sometimes to get your kids to bed. I’ve highlighted a few factors that might help you, too.

1. Windows open

The rooms in the house can heat up very quickly, particularly when the sun is shining. You can try and block it by closing the blinds during the day.  Before going to bed, open a window. Chloe sweats quite easily at night so during the Summer it’s a must to have her windows open. I remember as a child we always slept with the window open.

2. Light clothes

Chloe is still in nappies at night but since we had this heat wave at the weekend, I decided to drop the vests altogether. It was holding the nappy in place but there is no need for it anymore. She is a lot more comfortable with just shorts and a t-shirt and gets a better nights sleep.

3. Black out curtains

Dearest black out blinds, I really dont know where we would be without you. Luckily we are quite in the routine so never really hear “It’s still bright outside”, “Can we stay up a little longer?”

Don’t get me wrong, when on holidays, I do let the kids stay up a little longer but we are trying to stick with the evening routine as much as possible. They’re generally quite exhausted from the day.

Direct blinds is one of many retailers who provide good quality curtains. Choose many different designs and customise them for your window. A room without curtains just feels incomplete to me. We had no blinds or curtains in some of the rooms for months due to the window size.

4. Light blanket

Invest in an all season duvet. Matthew has a lighter duvet than Chloe. She prefers having her feet over the blanket as she gets hot during the night. Eventually though she will want the duvet back on her.

Last but not least, always have a bottle of water on the bedside table.

Some really great tips, thank you! For us decent black out curtains or blinds are the key!

The light evenings really make it hard when they’re trying to get to sleep! It makes such a difference having black out blinds. We always have a window open too and my boys love their fan on! x
