Practical Dressing for Holidaying with Kids

We love to travel as a family. Over the years, we have traveled to Spain, Germany and the UK. So, naturally, over that time, we have picked up plenty of travel tricks that make things easier for everyone.

One of which is making sure that everyone, including you, is dressed in a practical way. When you do that the whole family can enjoy all of the activities that are on offer. The other day I was browsing the JD Williams site and came across plenty of clothes that would be ideal for a holiday with the kids, which is what inspired me to write this post.

Clothes that allow you enough freedom of movement

With kids you can never be sure what you will be doing from one minute to the next. You could be walking to the science museum and have to stop for them to play on the swings. Or plan a day at the beach which turns into an afternoon at the local funfair. You have to be flexible when you have young energetic children. Sometimes your day will go as planned other times you will have to spend a few hours doing something else so the kids can burn off a little energy.

Ideally you want to be wearing clothes that allow you sufficient freedom of movement. Loose fitting jackets, kimonos and cardigans are ideal. You can wear them over the top of anything from t-shirts to blouses. They look good whether you are wearing a skirt, jeans or trousers. Cardigans is something I have a collection of so I can pair them with any outfit, particularly during Spring and Summer.

Pack practical footwear

It is very important to pack practical footwear. Low heels are certainly better than high heels. Make sure that everyone’s shoes, sandals, trainers and boots have been well worn in properly. Not doing this is asking for trouble. Someone is bound to get a blister if you pack brand new footwear.

Plenty of pockets

Keeping everything you need for the kids close at hand is a good idea. It is wise to wear clothing that has deep and secure pockets. That way you will have plenty of places to stow away sun cream, snacks, sunglasses, your room key, cash and other items.

Clothes that preserve your modesty

When choosing your tops, bear in mind that you will need to bend down a fair amount to sort out the kids. If you are worried about modesty, when you try on a t-shirt, blouse or swimming costume stand in the mirror and bend forwards at the waist. This will let you work out if it is modest enough.

Those are the basics. If you would like a more comprehensive family holiday packing list, you can find an excellent one on this website.
